Victory Team set for first battle of the year

The first round of the 4 heat race series will see boats from around the globe battle it out in what promises to be a day of thrills and high packed adrenalin spills.

Dubai’s Victory Team, powered by their twin V6 4.0-litre BMW engine catamarans, weigh in as the seasons firm favorites.  With their forth Class II UIM WOC title already under their belts (not to mention clinching their sixth Class I Championship title and their forth European Championship trophy) their hearts will be set on another conquest and prove determined to continue with their winning streak.

Set to commence the first battle of the year at the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club and at the Dubai International Marine Club on the 25th of January 2002, crowned Champions, Saeed H. Al-Tayer and Mohammed Al Marri, Victory 7, will be under heavy attack as team mates Ali Nasser and Ali Al Qama, Victory 1, do their best to steal the crown and the glory in what has the potential to become another battle royal.

Last year’s race series was dogged with problems for the pairing of Ali Al Qama and then partner Mohamed Al Ghaith in Victory 1. Engine failure, a broken hose and a bent rudder left them with two disappointing early retirements and saw their top placings hopes dashed. However Al Qama is ever optimistic for this year’s title. “If the performance of our boat during the 2001 UIM Class II race series is any thing to go by and our luck holds out, then we are certainly hoping for a good result this year.” said Al Qama, recently crowned 2001 UIM Class II World Champion.

Last years runner up, Mateo Nicollini and Kristian Tzanov in the Damas boat will be coming back faster and harder with their new modified diesel engine powering the way and look confident for another shot at the top spot on the podium. “We have taken a Class I engine and modified it to run in the Class II. So far it is running very well and we hope for a good result. Who knows, we may take the trophy this time.” said Tzanov, the Bulgarian throttleman for the Damas boat.

Class III will remain the same and the challenging pack will be hard pushed to topple defending Class III Champions, Cotto D’este.

What ever the outcome on the day, it will be up to the skill of the drivers to ensure a smart race, the performance of the engines to secure a fast and reliable finish, the attention to detail of the crew to prevent any mishaps, but most importantly, the amount of good luck to bless the teams on race day in order for them to bring home the trophy.
