Here
in Dubai for the International Press Launch of the BMW 760Li, member of the
board, Human Resources for BMW Group, Mr. Ernst Baumann, paid a visit to the
Victory Team for a tour that included a visit around their boat building and
fabrication facilities, a glimpse at the shape of things to come in the form
of the new 2003 built Victory Team boats and as the cherry on the cake, a
ride in one of the BMW V8 powered Class Two boats.
Commenting
on the state of the art head quarters that signals the start of a new
commercial era for the
Dubai
team, an immensely impressed
Baumann stated. “I think that the Victory team facilities are
extremely professional. Coming out of the engine business I started as an
engineer in the engine plant in
Munich
and I was really impressed with Victory Team. Any body who knows anything
about this line of work can see that the world titles that Victory Team has
won are based on the professionalism that starts in their workshop.”
Although delighted with the
tour, the biggest thrill for Baumann came when he took the 35 foot long boat
for a spin on the waters of the Gulf. Despite high swells and rough seas
that made for a bumpy ride, exiting the cockpit, a delighted Bauman said, “My
body is still deciding but I enjoyed it very much, though that may be due to
the skills of the throttleman Jean Marc. Amazingly my back is still intact
and I now know what they mean when they say that ‘the water is very
hard’.” said a laughing Baumann.
The association between
Dubai
’s Victory Team and the premium German luxury car manufacturer BMW Group
began in 2000 and has already led the blue liveried boats to 2 World
Championship titles. With another World Offshore Championship approaching,
followers are expectant of another world championship trophy to bless the
three year Victory-BMW union.
The same V8 engines that
powers the class two boats are also to be found in the BMW 740iL and X5
vehicles. “I think that BMW
and Victory Team make a perfect fit. The
values that carry BMW in a lot of instances are very similar to the brand
values that drive the Victory Team.” said Baumann.
